2009 INAUGERATION FOLD-N-LEARN

We put photos of Barak Obama taking the Oath of Office,

of him standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial,

along with photos of Rick Warren, pastor, who gave the

opening prayer and Aretha Franklin who sang our

National Anthem to personalize it. On the fold-it for the

Fun Facts we put a picture showing a portion of the

vast crowd that attended the Inaugeration.

Megan wrote a short bio for Barak Obama and wanted

to include the phrases, "God Bless America" and

"Let Freedom Ring". We had a lot of fun putting this

together and talking about the information learned.

Thomas Edison Unit Study

Here are a few pages of our unit study on Thomas Edision.
I used a 10x10 scrapbook to put her lessons in.

Above shows 3 lessons. On top we talked about how fast light
travels and related that time to how many times light
can cross the US and circle the earth. On the bottom left
in an accordian fold we talked about sound travel and
wrote a few interesting facts. Across from that is a
matchbook flip-it of a mini-bio on Albert A. Michelson.

Above is her lesson on the different branches of sciences.
We grouped them into four areas and wrote the
individual sciences in those areas.

On the left side we had fun with Famous Sayings, such
as, "Burn the Midnight Oil", and "Chill Out".
She chose a few she really liked and wrote them
with their meaning inside the flip-it. On the other side are
mini-bio's on Millard Filmore and Commodore Perry.

Above is our study of Canada. On top she marked a
map distinguishing Provinces and Territories of Canada,
noted Canada's name in Iroquois and its meaning,
and put its flag. Below that we talked about Lief Ericson
and put a map of his voyage route taken.

This page shows a mini-bio on James Buchanan,
the 4 books she read on slavery and her essay,
which I can't help but to put it here for all to read:

My Essay on Slavery and the Underground Railroad

indentNo one should be a slave. Everybody is the same. The color of
a persons skin does not matter. It does not matter how rich you are,
you should not own a person. People who were slaves wanted to
be free. They had to runaway to Canada. They had to hide from the
dogs because the man holding the dogs wanted to catch them.

indentThe slaves used the Underground Railroad to escape. It is not a real
railroad. There is no train. It is a line of people who helped the slaves get to
Canada. Without freedom life would be horrible.
